(Case Study) LGH Provides Equipment for McAvoy's Kelmscott Secondary School Expansion Project

McAvoy's Kelmscott Secondary School
Posted in: Case Studies

LGH recently helped McAvoy with their latest project, an expansion to Kelmscott Secondary School for the London borough of Waltham Forest. With the recent announcements set by the Government regarding education, there has been an increased need for teaching facilities at local schools.

Additionally, the 26-module extension of the school embodies sustainability at its core. A green roof was incorporated to offset the school's ecological footprint, complemented by photovoltaic solar panels.

The Challenge:

The project consisted of the construction of a two-storey school building including 9 large classrooms, ancillary space, a server room, and a staff room, as well as a separate SEN building which includes an innovative sensory room and therapy room. As seen in many modular elements and buildings, the load had an off-centre Centre of Gravity (CoG).

The Solution:

LGH supplied McAvoy with x2 MOD50’s, x1 MOD70, chain slings and shackles to complete the lift. Due to the uneven weight distribution (CoG) of the building, a complex rigging setup was required to ensure a safe and balanced lift. The LGH range of modular spreader beams and configuration options provided the flexibility required to complete 7 variations of lifts  to successfully complete the project.

The project was completed within a brisk five-month timeframe, starting from the delivery of the first module.
