(Case Study) Lifting a 48t Bridge on to a Pontoon
Posted in: Case Studies

LOCATION
Netherlands

THE CHALLENGE
The Steenhuisenbrug (a 48T bridge) needed to be moved to a different location to undergo refurbishment for 6 weeks. The bridge had to be disconnected and replaced by a temporary pedestrian bridge. The challenge lied in the fact that the location is in a busy residential area and there is no possibility to install a mobile crane directly next to the bridge.

THE SITUATION/CIRCUMSTANCES
Under the bridge a pontoon was placed with the Enerpac hydraulic lifting portal on both sides. The bridge was attached to the head beams of the portal using roundslings. The bridge was then lifted using the wireless controller. On the pontoon the bridge then started its journey through the busy residential area for approximately 100 meters until it was possible to use a crane.

LGH EQUIPMENT USED

  • Enerpac hydraulic gantry system
  • Roundslings
