(Case Study) Queens Park Bridge Gets a Modern Makeover
Posted in: Case Studies

Location:  Heywood

Project Overview:

The 12-month construction plan for Queens Park Bridge started back in January 2024. The project's initiative addressed structural needs beneath the bridge deck through extensive concrete repairs, ensuring its continued stability and safety for the future.

The Objective:

The bridge needed extensive concrete repairs to the structure beneath the road surface and replacement of the parapets. Additionally, the project sought to enhance the bridge's aesthetics and functionality by replacing existing concrete barriers with Trief kerbs. These innovative kerbs offer a lighter-weight alternative, reducing stress on the bridge structure, while maintaining crucial safety measures for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

The Challenge:

One of the project's most significant challenges was limited access to the bridge's underdeck. Traditional scaffolding methods wouldn't suffice. This is where LGH’s expertise came into play.

The Solution:

LGH assisted our valued customer with installing bridging beams for a scaffolding system that went across the river beneath the bridge. This solution not only ensured safe and efficient access for repairs but also prioritised worker safety throughout the project. We supported the project by providing the following equipment:

Tirfor

Lever hoist

Round Slings

X2 Wire Rope Block
