(Case Study) Powering the Future, One Hoist at a Time
Posted in: Case Studies

If you are local to Cheshire you may have heard about the Protos Energy Recovery Facility located at Peel NRE's energy hub in Ellesmere Port. The £700 million, state-of-the-art facility will convert 500,000t of waste into 49MW of clean electricity annually, helping drive the UK’s shift to renewable energy.

Project start date: December 2020

Project expected end date: 2024

Challenge:

Constructing a facility of this scale and complexity presents numerous engineering challenges. One critical aspect was the installation of an internal staircase, which required precise and efficient material handling solutions in a tight, high-elevated space.

The Solution:

LGH's customer hired two 3-tonne electric chain hoists with a 45-meter lift height, equipped with power travel trolleys and radio remote controls to support the staircase installation process.

The hoists provided the precision and efficiency needed to complete the installation, maintaining safety and keeping the project on schedule. A key benefit of these hoists is that they can operate in confined spaces and at height.

Conclusion:

The Protos Energy Recovery Facility represents a significant step forward in the UK's transition to a low-carbon economy. LGH is proud to be a part of this ambitious project, providing essential equipment and support to help bring the facility to life.

The successful deployment of our electric chain hoists demonstrates our commitment to delivering innovative and reliable solutions for demanding industrial applications.
